Tangata Tiaki / Kaitiaki – Customary Kaimoana Permits

Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki are appointed guardians responsible for managing and protecting customary fisheries within our rohe. They work alongside whānau and communities to ensure the sustainable harvest of kaimoana while upholding tikanga, kaitiakitanga, and the customary rights of tangata whenua.

If you are seeking a customary kaimoana permit for hui, tangihanga, cultural events, or other approved customary purposes, please contact one of our Tangata Tiaki/Kaitiaki representatives listed below. They can provide guidance on permit requirements, customary harvest processes, species availability, and sustainable gathering practices.
